Two weeks to EDGAR Next: are you ready?

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) introduced its new platform called EDGAR Next last March. This update is designed to improve security, streamline account management, and make the filing process more efficient. So what is changing, when and what do you have to do?

EDGAR Next

If you file with the SEC, you need to be aware of these changes and take action to ensure your access isn’t interrupted. Here’s a quick guide to what’s happening, the key dates, and what you need to do now.

What is changing with EDGAR Next?

EDGAR Next will change how filers access and manage their accounts. The core of this change is a new, more secure login and account management process. Instead of the old login credentials, filers will now use Login.gov for authentication, and each filer will designate one or more Account Administrators to manage their EDGAR account, permissions, and filings.

The goal is to provide a unified, secure access point and give filers more control over who can submit filings on their behalf.

Key dates and deadlines

It is crucial to act within the SEC’s timeline to avoid losing filing access. EDGAR filers must enrol to continue using the system; the enrolment opened back in March and can be done via the SEC’s filer management website.

  1. September 12, 2025 (10:00 p.m. ET): mandatory enrolment deadline. If you miss this deadline, your EDGAR account will be suspended, and you will be unable to make any filings until you complete the enrolment process.
  2. September 15, 2025: existing EDGAR codes will be deactivated, and filers will be unable to submit documents until they have successfully enrolled in EDGAR Next.
  3. September 12, 2025 – December 19, 2025: the enrolment window remains open, but filers who do not complete enrolment will not be able to submit documents during this period.
  4. December 19, 2025: the enrolment period for EDGAR Next closes. Filers who have not enrolled by this date will lose access to their EDGAR accounts permanently. To file again, you will have to submit a new Form ID application to regain access.

Action required: how to prepare your organization

Here are the steps to take now:

1.Designate your authorized enroller: your organization must choose one person to be the “authorized enroller.” This individual will be responsible for completing the initial enrolment in EDGAR Next and setting up the initial account administrator(s).

2.Create Login.gov credentials: the authorized enroller and all designated account administrators must each create their own individual accounts at Login.gov. This is a mandatory step and should be completed in advance to avoid delays.

3.Gather required information: before starting the enrolment process, make sure you have the following information ready:

  • Your company’s Central Index Key (CIK).
  • Your CIK Confirmation Code (CCC).
  • Your EDGAR Passphrase.
  • The full name, email address, business address, and business phone number for each person you will designate as an account administrator.

4. Coordinate with third-party agents: If you use a filing agent, software provider, or other third party to submit filings, contact them now. Discuss how the transition to EDGAR Next will impact your workflow and ensure they are also preparing for these changes.

A note for our AQMetrics customers

We are fully prepared for the transition to EDGAR Next and are committed to making this process as seamless as possible for you.

Please note that each filing entity must complete its own enrolment directly with the SEC. Once your organization has enrolled and designated its Account Administrators, the next critical step is to grant AQMetrics the necessary delegate permissions to continue submitting filings on your behalf.

Our team will be in touch with you directly in the coming weeks with detailed, step-by-step guidance to ensure this is done correctly and efficiently. As always, we are here to support you through this transition.

Don’t wait until the deadline. Taking these steps now will ensure a seamless transition and prevent any disruption to your filing schedule.

The SEC has made available a recorded webinar, providing guidance to filers regarding enrolment in EDGAR Next and answering certain frequently asked questions. You can watch it here.
